Admiralty & Maritime

The practice of admiralty law has been central to Chaffe McCall since the firm’s earliest days in the 1820s.  Serving the international and domestic shipping communities over generations, the Admiralty Section has expanded its traditional role in the bluewater area and represents ship-owners, charterers, protection and indemnity associations, terminal owners, and domestic and foreign insurers.  The Section’s individualized approach to each case reflects our attorneys’ broad knowledge and deep understanding of admiralty law.  The result is effective representation, the cornerstone of long-standing client relationships.

Chaffe McCall’s admiralty practice is international in scope.  Our attorneys regularly represent U.S. clients in other countries, as well as foreign interests in the U.S.  The Section is multicultural and multilingual, including attorneys fluent in Spanish, Greek, and Portuguese.  We regularly conduct investigations and monitor litigation in courts in Latin America and the Caribbean.  The firm maintains close ties with attorneys worldwide and delivers a full complement of foreign and U.S. legal services to its clients.

Our admiralty attorneys are admitted to practice in many states and have conducted arbitrations and litigated cases in Louisiana, Puerto Rico, California, Florida, Alabama, Texas, Mississippi, New York, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Washington, D.C.  In addition to our diverse legal experience, we understand the technical and practical aspects of the maritime industry and consider them in advising our clients.  Members of the Admiralty Section have served in the United States Merchant Marine, the United States Navy, and the United States Coast Guard.
