Chaffe McCall Welcomes Bankruptcy Attorneys to the Firm’s New Orleans Office

NEW ORLEANS, LA (February 22, 2017) – Seasoned bankruptcy attorneys, David J. Messina and Fernand “Ferdie” L. Laudumiey, IV, have joined Chaffe McCall’s New Orleans office as Partners in the firm’s Business Practice area.  The two will focus their practice on bankruptcy law and complex bankruptcy litigation.

David J. Messina has close to 30 years of experience representing clients in connection with problem credits, workouts, and Chapter 11 reorganization and liquidation proceedings. As bankruptcy counsel he has successfully represented clients with substantial financial stakes. He is Board-Certified in Business Bankruptcy Law by the American Board of Certification and is a Board-Certified Business Bankruptcy Law Specialist certified by the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization. He is a frequent speaker at bankruptcy law seminars, including at the Annual Bankruptcy Law Seminar presented by the Louisiana bankruptcy judges and sponsored by the LSU Center for Continuing Professional Development. He has served as an Adjunct Professor at the Loyola College of Law, teaching Creditors’ Rights and Bankruptcy for over thirteen years. He is consistently recognized by leading legal and local publications for his work in Bankruptcy and Creditor-Debtor Rights, Insolvency, and Reorganization Law. David received a B.M. and M.B.A degrees from Loyola University, before earning his J.D. from the College of Law in 1987. Upon graduation, he clerked for the Honorable Louis M. Phillips, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Louisiana.

Fernand L. Laudumiey, IV for the past 17 years has successfully advised and represented clients in both Chapter 11 reorganization and Chapter 7 liquidation proceedings, including bankruptcy trustees, debtors, and creditors in Louisiana and other jurisdictions.  His experience has included the prosecution of preference, fraudulent conveyance, and other avoidance action proceedings, prosecution of discharge complaints, objections to exemptions and claims, executory contract matters, and various general administration of bankruptcy estates.

He has successfully represented lenders in connection with complex energy-related bankruptcy cases. Ferdie has been a speaker on bankruptcy issues and has been recognized for his work in Bankruptcy. In addition, he has handled real estate law and property matters, advising and representing appraisers, lenders, and title insurance companies in both federal and state court.  He earned his J.D. in 1996 from Louisiana State University Law Center and received a B.A degree from Loyola University, magna cum laude, in 1992. Upon graduation, he clerked for The Honorable Marcel Livaudais, Jr., U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana, from 1996-1998.
