Slater Joins Chaffe McCall as Partner in New Orleans Civil Litigation Practice

NEW ORLEANS, LA (November 25, 2019) – Chaffe McCall welcomes Benjamin R Slater, III to its Civil Litigation practice in New Orleans.

Ben joins the firm as a Partner with a practice focusing on railroad and transportation law, energy, restaurant, and consumer products law.  He is a highly regarded trial lawyer with over 40 years’ experience in advising and representing clients in these key sectors. 

Before joining Chaffe McCall, Ben served as the Managing Partner in the New Orleans office of a Top 100 law firm in the U.S.   Ben has represented railroads in dealings with the Corps of Engineers, as well as clients in numerous landlord/tenant matters and expropriation initiated by the State of Louisiana. He has served as Louisiana division counsel to Norfolk Southern and its affiliates for over 20 years.

Ben also maintains a substantial environmental law practice, obtaining both bench and jury verdicts in numerous cases against both U.S.-based and international insurers involving pre-1990 commercial general liability policies covering clean-up cost reimbursement.

Ben received both his law degree from Tulane University Law School in 1975 and his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972.  Ben is a past member of the DRI Executive Committee and is active in the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel.

He has been consecutively named “Lawyer of the Year” in New Orleans for Transportation Law by The Best Lawyers in America. He has also been selected for inclusion in Louisiana Super Lawyers Magazine for Transportation/Maritime and named as a Top Lawyer by New Orleans Magazine.
