The attorneys and staff of Chaffe McCall are deeply saddened by the passing of our esteemed colleague, mentor, and friend, Jonathan McCall. Jonathan devoted his legal career to advancing the traditions of excellence, integrity, and service that have defined Chaffe McCall for nearly two centuries.
“Jonathan embodied the very best of our firm,” said Managing Partner Doug Holmes. “As both an exceptional lawyer and a member of one of Chaffe McCall’s founding families, he carried forward a tradition of excellence while remaining approachable, generous, and deeply committed to the success of others. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. His integrity, professionalism, and collegiality throughout his career left a lasting mark on our firm and on the countless attorneys who had the privilege of working alongside him.”
Jonathan retired from the partnership and held the title of Partner Emeritus, remaining a cherished member of the Chaffe McCall family. He was widely recognized for his contributions to the appellate practice. He served as Founding Co-Chair of the Appellate Practice Committee of the New Orleans Bar Association and authored numerous articles on appellate procedure and advocacy. His professional accomplishments earned him an AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, recognition as one of New Orleans’ Top Lawyers by CityBusiness, selection as a Top Lawyer by New Orleans Magazine, and inclusion in Louisiana Super Lawyers as one of only a handful of appellate attorneys recognized in the state.
Beyond his legal achievements, Jonathan was deeply committed to civic and charitable service. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Greater New Orleans Educational Television Foundation (WYES-TV), chaired the board of Tulane University Hospital, and held leadership roles with numerous community organizations, including the American Red Cross Southeast Louisiana Chapter.
We join Jonathan’s family, friends, former clients, and colleagues in mourning this tremendous loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to all who knew and loved him, and we are grateful for the remarkable legacy he leaves behind.
