Bush Quoted in Two CityBusiness Articles

Michael Bush, a partner in the firm’s Labor & Employment section, was recently quoted in two articles published by New Orleans CityBusiness. The first article, titled “Holiday Labor Law Checklist for Employers,” offered recommended guidelines for retailers on managing the busy holiday shopping season. Mr. Bush spoke about the need for small retailers without the benefit of full-time, experienced HR departments to nevertheless keep detailed records of hours, compensation, and scheduling, as well as the need to be clear about the essential terms and short-term nature of seasonal employment. The second article, titled “Unpaid Interns Put Employers at Legal Risk,” addressed the recent issues surrounding large media companies that have had unpaid internship programs in violation of the minimum wage requirements. Mr. Bush said that these recent issues have led some clients to reconsider their unpaid internships, because establishing legally compliant programs is becoming more difficult.
