Fair Play: Chaffe McCall Marine Cup Challenge 2016

The Marine Challenge Cup Five-A-Side Football Tournament proved to be once again a destination for the shipping community’s soccer elites.

Organizer Chaffe McCall, along with co-sponsors, Palmer Biezup, DeCastro & Robles, Horr, Novak & Skipp, and Keesal Young & Logan, hosted yet another successful international soccer tournament in Dulwich, South London. This marked the 18th season for the Marine Challenge Cup, which was held the second weekend in July. This year’s tournament welcomed over 20 teams of professionals in the shipping community. Participants represented many sectors of the maritime industry, including P&I clubs, brokers, solicitors, insurers, investigators, law-firms and others.

After a day-long battle under beautiful weather conditions the competition saw Thomas Miller earn the Marine Challenge Cup title with a 6-2 victory over first time participants, Skuld. This year Chaffe McCall also was happy to reach the Veterans Cup final. Dan Tadros, Practice Area Coordinator for Chaffe McCall’s Admiralty practice said, “We are approaching our 20th anniversary and it is exciting that the tournament has been so popular and continues to grow each year. There were great marks on the fields and overall, it was a success. Thank you to all those who participated and we look forward to next year.”

The tournament has emerged as one of the most enjoyed tournaments of the year for the shipping community and a great deal of participating teams and players come from the London area, but others travel from all over Europe.
