Mr. Nalty graduated from Georgetown College of Arts & Sciences in 1958. He attended Georgetown Law Center where he earned an LL.B. in January 1961 as a part of an accelerated curriculum. While at law school he was initially employed by the United States Senate Judiciary Committee and then as an Assistant Administrative Aide to T. Hale Boggs, M.C. Thereafter, he was employed for a brief period of time with Thomas R. Miller & Sons in London, England, which firm is the Manager of the United Kingdom Steamship Assurance Association Limited. He returned to New Orleans in September of 1961 and was graduated from Tulane Law School with a JD Degree in 1962. Mr. Nalty was the recipient in 1987 of the John Carroll Award at Georgetown University and the Bicentennial Award at Georgetown University in 1989, was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering, honoris causa, from the University of New Orleans in May 1992, was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Arts, honoris causa, from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in May 1996, was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Human Rights, honoris causa from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in 1999, was awarded the CANOVA Medal by the Monumenti Musei E Gallerie Pontificie in 1996 for support of the Vatican Museums, and was the recipient of the "Role Model" Award of the Young Leadership Council of New Orleans in 1993.

 

In 1997, Mr. Nalty and his wife Jane Hanemann Nalty were awarded the Spes Unica Award of Our Lady of Holy Cross College. Mr. Nalty holds the rank of Knight Commander of the Equestrain Order of the Holy Sepulchre, and has served as Hospitaller in New Orleans of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Federal Association.

 

Mr. Nalty joined the Firm in 1961, and for approximately fifteen years almost entirely practiced in the Admiralty Trial Section. Thereafter, he was involved in an extensive complex litigation involving various types, including products liability, offshore towing losses, real estate, finance and construction.

 

In recent years while reducing his involvement in litigation, he has been actively involved in assisting various European firms locating in the United States and the Gulf South region.

 

As founding President of the University of New Orleans Urban Waste Management & Research Foundation (Center), Mr. Nalty has also been actively involved in pursuing the cooperative agreement between the University of New Orleans and the Environmental Protection Agency.

 

As founding President of the University of New Orleans Technology & Research Foundation in 1997, Mr. Nalty is active in the development of the Research & Technology Park on the campus of the University of New Orleans and will be involved in the development of the technology licenses and patents in the New Orleans system.  Until 1992, Mr. Nalty served the Firm as a member of its Executive Committee. Mr. Nalty has altered his relationship within the firm to that of "Of Counsel" where he continues to carry out his practice.  Mr. Nalty is a former lecturer at St. Mary's Dominican College, a Distinguished Visiting Lecturer at the University of Shenyang (1994), University of Liaoning Province, and Dalian Maritime Institute (1995) in the Peoples Republic of China. He is a member of all relevant State and Federal Bar Associations. He is a Research Fellow for the Southwest Legal Foundation, Member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States, and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Mr. Nalty now serves a second six-year term on the Board of Regents of Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., is formerly the chairman of Our Lady of Holy Cross College Board of Regents in New Orleans, Louisiana, and formerly President of the University of New Orleans Foundation. Mr. Nalty serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Educational Broadcasting, Inc., licensees of the Public Broadcast Station WLAE-TV Channel 32.

 

Mr. Nalty received the sacrament of Holy Orders to the Order of Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church in June of 1974 and has served for 18 years at the Cathedral of St. Louis King of France, and is now assigned to St. Francis Xavier Parish in Metairie. Mr. Nalty has been a Procurator-Advocate of the Metropolitan Tribunal for the Archdiocese of New Orleans from 1974 to present, and has been an associate Judge of the Metropolitan Tribunal for the Archdiocese of New Orleans from 1994 to present.
