Peter A. Feringa, Jr. graduated from Tulane Law School in 1959. He was a member of the Board of Editors of the Tulane Law Review in 1958 and 1959. After graduation, he joined Chaffe, McCall and has practiced principally civil and commercial litigation.

Mr. Feringa was lead counsel for General Foods Corporation and its Burger Chef subsidiary (since divested) against claims of tying, monopolization and breach of contract made by a large franchisee based in Southwest Louisiana. He was actively involved in the American Sugar Refinery explosion cases, Moak v. Link Belt, on behalf of the American Sugar Refinery (now Domino Sugar Corporation).

Mr. Feringa has acted as lead counsel in many product liability and environmental actions, including chemical spraying cases and neighborhood suits against oil refineries. He presently is one of the counsel for Marine Shale Processors, Inc. in its defense of the largest civil action ever instituted by the Environmental Protection Agency.

His experience in complex construction litigation includes the representation of American Bridge, a former subsidiary of United States Steel Corporation, in disputes involving the construction of the New Orleans Superdome and related matters thereafter and the representation of C. H. Leavell & Co., Inc., general contractor for a major exhibition hall, the New Orleans Rivergate, in a number of construction disputes.

He is currently defending Grinnell Corporation in litigation resulting from the MacFrugal Warehouse fire which destroyed the largest and most sophisticated warehouse in Louisiana.

In the corporate litigation area, he has represented various corporations, such as Ford Motor Company, Samedan Oil Corporation, Ford Motor Credit Company, Holiday Inns of America, Citicorp Person to Person in litigation involving mergers, acquisitions, commercial financing, franchise disputes, RICO claims, anti-trust claims and truth-in-lending disputes. For many years, Mr. Feringa represented a national title insurance company, Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation, in various real estate and mortgage litigation matters. He also represented New Orleans East, Inc., owner of hundreds of acres of land in east New Orleans in a dispute among its partners and lender.

In 1981, the Louisiana Supreme Court appointed Mr. Feringa to a vacant judgeship in the Twenty-Fourth Judicial District Court as judge Pro Tempore for a period of six months. For many years, Mr. Feringa has served as a member of the panel of arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association and has acted as an arbitrator in numerous construction and commercial disputes.
