Robert B. Deane
Direct Dial Number: (504) 585-7051 Mr. Deane was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1929. He attended Louisiana State University and Law School, where he was a Moot Court finalist, a member of the Moot Court Board, and a member of Phi Delta Phi. He received a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1953 and a Juris Doctor Degree in 1964. Mr. Deane is a member of the New Orleans, Louisiana State, and Federal, Fifth Circuit, Eleventh Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court bars, and the American Bar Association. He is a Proctor in the Maritime Law Association of the United States, where he serves on the Law of the Sea Committee and the Carriage of Goods by Sea Committee. He is an associate member of the association of Average Adjusters (London). He has served as an Arbitrator of the American Arbitration Association. In 1982, he appeared before the State Bar of Texas Maritime Law Institute, where he presented a paper entitled "Division of Damages in Maritime Actions Before and After Reliable Transfer." Mr. Deane also presented papers to the New Orleans Maritime Law Seminar on "Procedural Aspects of Limitation of Liability" (1980) and on "Vacating Attachment or Arrest of Vessels" (1995). Mr. Deane practiced in New Orleans for four years before joining Chaffe McCall in 1959. His practice consists primarily of admiralty, insurance and casualty litigation. He has acted as counsel for a number of small boat and barge owning and operating companies in the financing of numerous vessels. Mr. Deane served as head of the firm's Admiralty Section for several years. |
