Mr. Barney received his Bachelor of Science in Construction from Louisiana State University in 1987. After working for two years with a construction-consulting firm, he enrolled in the Louisiana State University Law Center where he received his juris doctorate in 1992.

While attending law school, Mr. Barney became a member of the Louisiana Law Review and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. Following graduation, he was employed as a law clerk for the Honorable Luther F. Cole and the Honorable Catherine "Kitty" Kimball, Associate Justices of the Louisiana Supreme Court. 

Mr. Barney joined Chaffe McCall in 1993 and became a general partner in 2000. He is currently practicing in the areas of construction litigation, commercial litigation and products liability.

Mr. Barney has extensive construction, products liability and toxic tort experience, representing owners, general contractors, subcontractors, manufacturers, suppliers and design professionals in litigation and arbitration, including:

  • Mechanical design and construction defect case involving multimillion dollar moisture intrusion and business interruption claims regarding a hotel addition to a casino complex
  • Construction design and defect case involving multimillion dollar moisture intrusion and property devaluation claims regarding an assisted living facility
  • Defective earthwork and construction defect claims regarding a commercial production facility
  • Mechanical design and construction defect case involving moisture intrusion and business loss claims regarding a funeral home
  • Public bid law and intellectual property dispute regarding contracts to rehabilitate submerged bridge support pilings
  • Defense of multi-party mold and asbestos personnel injury claims asserted against employers, product manufacturers and premises owners.

Mr. Barney is admitted to practice before all state courts in Louisiana, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana, and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
