Scott C. Barney
Scott C. Barney received his Bachelor of Science in Construction from Louisiana State University in 1987. After working for two years with a construction-consulting firm, he enrolled in the Louisiana State University Law Center where he received his juris doctorate in 1992.
While attending law school, Mr. Barney became a member of the Louisiana Law Review and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. Following graduation, he was employed as a law clerk for the Honorable Luther F. Cole and the Honorable Catherine "Kitty" Kimball, Associate Justices of the Louisiana Supreme Court.
Mr. Barney joined Chaffe McCall in 1993 and became a general partner in 2000. He is currently practicing in the areas of construction litigation, commercial litigation, products liability litigation, credit related litigation, complex collections and contract disputes.
Mr. Barney has extensive construction, products liability and toxic tort experience in state and federal trial and appellate courts, and in arbitration.
Mr. Barney has represented owners, general contractors, subcontractors, manufacturers, suppliers and design professionals in legal disputes involving hotel, casino, and funeral home facilities, healthcare and commercial production facilities, as well as petrochemical refining processes. He has litigated/arbitrated:
- Mechanical design, construction design, construction defect, and defective earthwork claims;
- Multimillion dollar moisture intrusion, business interruption, business loss, and property devaluation claims; and
- Public bid law and intellectual property disputes.
He has represented employees, product manufacturers and premise owners in the defense of multi-party mold and asbestos personal injury claims throughout Louisiana courts.
Mr. Barney is admitted to practice before all state courts in Louisiana, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana, and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
